Lesson 1 - Fractions as Decimals

Hello, Room 3!

I hope you're all doing well and are as excited about our next lesson as I am. Who's up for a gaming adventure while learning fractions? If you've ever wondered how playing Minecraft can help you understand maths better, you're about to find out!

What Are We Learning? ๐Ÿ“–

We're diving deep into the world of Fractions! Fractions help us understand how parts can make up a whole. Imagine you have a whole chocolate bar and decide to share half of it with a friend. What do you have left? Exactly, half a bar! And that, dear students, is the magic of fractions. Cool, right?

How Are We Learning? ๐ŸŽฎ

Using our trusty Minecraft Education app on our iPads/Computers, we'll embark on a fraction adventure. In this unique setting, each section of your garden will represent a different fraction. So, by the end, not only will you have a deeper understanding of fractions, but you'll also have a splendid garden as a keepsake.

Watch the video below to learn more about converting fractions to decimals, and vice versa (mathantics, 2011)!

Follow the instructions to start building your garden.

Remember, this isn't just about playing; it's about understanding how different parts can make a whole.

When we come back to school, we'll have a virtual showcase where you can share your gardens with the class. I can't wait to see what you all create!

๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง‍๐Ÿ‘ฆParents/Guardians:

Minecraft Education offers a safe and controlled environment for our young learners. As we delve into this digital experience, we assure you that your child’s online safety is our top priority. We encourage you to sit with them, join the fun, and learn about fractions too!

Stay safe, stay curious, and keep exploring. Remember: learning can be especially fun when it feels like play!

See you in the Minecraft world!

Warm wishes,

Ms. Jamine

P.S. Don't forget to capture screenshots of your garden and insert them into your Maths Notebook in OneNote. As always, I'll be available on Teams chat and will be checking our Class OneNote Notebook. Special shoutout and bonus Positive Points await those who create the most imaginative gardens! And remember, completing our remote tasks before our school reunion means I'll be doubling your Positive Points!
